Our skippers – experience, reliability and a professional network

For boat and yacht deliveries, we only employ skippers in whom we have professional and personal confidence. We have known many of them for years through working together – whether as co-skippers on longer passages, on demanding deliveries or as part of joint training. This direct, practical experience is one of the most important criteria for us: we only want to work with people whose working methods, decision-making skills and handling of challenges we know first-hand.

Our requirements for skippers are deliberately high. In addition to sound practical experience, they must have qualifications according to RYA or DSV standards, which enjoy international recognition and ensure a professional level of competence. However, certificates alone are not enough. We also include feedback from former crew members and customers in our selection. Feedback on communication skills, composure in stressful situations, team leadership, technical competence and reliability are incorporated into every decision – and help us to continuously ensure a high level of quality.

We do not see professional skippers as mere “holders of certificates”, but as all-round talents. They must have solid technical and nautical knowledge, be able to reliably assess the condition of a yacht, manoeuvre safely and act prudently even in difficult situations. At the same time, we attach great importance to our skippers being approachable. A yacht delivery is teamwork, often over several days or weeks. This requires people who make clear decisions, but still communicate cooperatively, who can lead a team in a modern way and who understand that good cooperation is just as important as nautical skills. For us, a professional skipper in the 21st century is someone who can not only sail, but also has an overall understanding of people, technology and processes.
